Ethernet Connection to a Virtual Machine

Hi all,
I am linking 1756-L62A with 1756 ENET/B with a Ethernet Connection to a Virtual Machine (VM Workstation Pro) . I am having trouble using RS Linx to initialize my Processor. Please respond with any tips or advice! Thanks in Advance!!

Hi Sam,

There could be a number of issues on the VM side. I would start by trying to ping the 1756-ENBT card. In other words, open command prompt and use the “ping x.x.x.x” command where x.x.x.x is the IP of the EtherNet card.

If the above doesn’t work, you must check your network settings. I’ve seen issues both on the PC and VM side of the configuration. The VM must be able to tunnel through your main machine and access the right ports / ethernet card.

If you can ping the card, you need to troubleshoot RSLinx. Add the card, can you see it? I would assume not… You may need to flash the firmware / download the right EDS files onto the VM.
